Public, Politician, Corruption and Connection.

Today, the whole India is celebrating victory of democracy, victory of a common man. Sri Anna Hazare, the man behind this victory has shown the power of a common man and non violence. Without CHAKKA JAAM  and RAIL ROKO ABHIYAN, he and his supports have compelled the government of India to think about Indians rather than about their alliance parties and ministers. When LOKPAL BILL has got a positive nod today from our respected prime minister, every Indian is feeling it as a starting of new era for India.

But still I have a doubt. Is Anna fighting against the government or corruption? The answer is pretty much obvious- corruption. But why are we celebrating it as a victory against this government only? Everybody especially youths are congratulating each other about surrender of the government and Anna’s effort to pass the LOKPAL bill. Will this bill/law be enough to free India from corruption? Is our duty as Indians done by giving an oral support to Anna throughout these 5 days?  I am sure that everybody will accept the answer as a big NO.

Let us take an example of a motorbike. There are two wheels in a motorbike. If you try to have a front or rear view of this bike, you will be able to see only one wheel of it completely and not its better half at all. If we consider our Indian system as this bike, the two wheels of this bike are Public and corruption. Both are driving our country in the backward direction. Looking at the public, you will never be able to see a corruption behind it and vice versa is also true. So where are the politicians in this system? They are just the accelerators who speed up or down the pace of the bike. Is a smooth accelerator enough to ride a bike with puncture wheels? We need to think about it.

LOKPAL bill will fight against those who are taking bribes and commissions and accelerating the corruption pace. What about those who are giving birth to different kind of corruption daily? Who are those? Those are none other than us. We are the one who believes in offering bribes to get our work done easily and fast, to get our kid’s admission in a premiere institution, to prepare fake bills to avoid taxes etc.  When this is the case, is there any possibility that Sri Anna’s effort will change our mindset too? May be yes and may not be. It totally depends on an individual and his conscience. But this is a golden opportunity and a perfect time to analyze, realize and execute the change in our own thoughts and actions.

A quote from SAMSKRUTA SHUBHASHITAS affirms the philosophy of a healthy society and its effort to bring a positive change.

udyamenaiva sidhyanti karyaaNi na manorathaiH
na hi suptasya simhasya pravisanti mukhe mRRigaaH

Translation of the above sloka is like this- “Only with industry and effort, works are done. Animals never themselves enter lion's mouth”.

Since independence was not a Cadbury chocolate the Englishmen offered us, it is the right time to wake up and save our independence against our own black Englishmen who are threat to this.

Lanka Dahan
